Georeference for "non-experts" is the Workshop organised in the frame of the Conference as an optional six hours intensive course organised by the Commission on georeference which makes sense in the humanities and curatorship approaches of Cartographic Heritage

The participants from humanities, map curatorship, geography and generally from non technical fields but dealing with historical maps, improved their knowledge and skills following the programme expecially designed for their needs

The Lectures followed by technical exersices introduced the participants in the content of georeference, in digital transformations of historical maps in georeference alternatives with relevant examples of good practices, using the Q-GIS application

Date: 27 May 2015, from 09:00 to 16:00 with half hour interval from 12:00 to 12:30

09.00 - 10.00 Nature of map; map recognition (typology, material, age, scale, content, etc); meaning and significance of georeference - Lecturers: E. Livieratos, C. Boutoura, V. Tsioukas, A. Tsorlini
10.00 - 11.00 From analogue to digital (scanning/digitisation, resolution, transformations etc); importance of comparative analysis (fitting, preservation of representation properties); tools for comparative analysis (transparency, animation); production of metadata - Lecturers: E. After the course the participants, from Belgium, Czech Republic, Denmark, Hong Kong- China, Greece, Latvia, Poland, Romania, Serbia, Slovenia, Switzerland and United States, visited the Archives guided by its head Nella Pantazi
